Last week I had the opportunity to attend the DEFinition slideshow, informal discussion, and booksigning. As I explained in an URB.com blog I posted:
Legendary Designer Cey Adams teamed up with graphic artist Bill Adler (both referred to as “a class duo” by Chuck D) in 2008 to bring audiences both a walking hip-hop aesthetic and visual music history in the form of a Book entitled DEFinition: The Art and Design of Hip-Hop. The Book takes a pictorial journey through art’s 35 year old relationship with and in hip-hop, visually capturing the careers of hip-hop recording artists such as Run DMC and Snoop Dogg as well as hip-hop visual artists Haze, Martha Cooper, Dr. Revolt, and Mr. Cartoon. The book contains over 200 photographs and illustrations as well as essays.
The creators have recently collaborated with Rush Arts Gallery in Manhattan, founded by hip-hop mogul Russel Simmons’ brother Danny, to bring to the public their work in exhibition form. This week the authors will be having a ONE NIGHT ONLY slideshow, informal conversation, and book signing at the Chelsea based Gallery.
It was inspiring and they had so much hip-hop history in their presentation. Plus some visual artists and original Def Jam executives were in the building, which just added to the whole culture of it all. Below are a few pics from the event.
