Name Drop: Part 5: Drew “The BrokeBaller” Anderson

Me and Drew Anderson aka Droppy go backĀ  like a decade. He’s been a consistent poet throughout the years. He was the first guy I knew who was printing poetry books, not chapbooks but poetry books. Matter of fact, it was at his suggestion that I started using his printers in DC when I printed my first book “Psalm Epic”.

He has been holding down his packed DC venue called Spit dat for years now, bringing free shows to other broke ballers, Howard students and the poetry lovers of DC. He is also was one of the original organizers of the illpoets movement. Oh yes Droopy, I remember. Every time I hear him, I smile. I am grateful that he has always been himself and brings his own uniqueness to the mic. He’s not only the “broke baller”, but I’m glad he’s my bud.
