So its spring break. That means no students, no classes. But this time is not just for physical classroom absence, but a time to feed myself and to reflect about teaching. I want to be a better Professor and educator overall and come back flamed and renewed and better. To do just that, I have dedicated the next 6 days as a time to learn more pedagogical methodologies, stretch and revise my teaching philosophy, and simply renew my passion and commitment to educating others. Therefore I have created an awesome reading list for myself to be completed this week, but studied throughout this year. I think you too may enjoy it. Here is it.
1. Freire, Paulo. Pedagogy of the Oppressed 1974
2. Dewey, John. Experience and Education 1938
3. Hooks, Bell. Teaching to Transgress. 1994 (Reread)
4. Bain, Ken. What the best college teachers Do. 2004
I think this is a good start. If you have any suggestions of books about the practice of teaching and/or the philosophy of education please drop me a line and contribute to the reading list. I would love to continue.
