Amiri Baraka and Us

May 20th, 2010

So last night, a group of our creative writing students and teachers went over to St. Marks church sponsored by the Poetry Project to hear Poet, Activist, Playwright, and founder of the Black Arts Movement, Amiri Baraka Read. (Thanks John for the idea!)

Baraka was inspiring, hardcore, and hilarious… as usual. At first we headed for Pizza at Famiglia and then headed to St. Marks. Pretty awesome night. Its always nice to spend out of classroom time with my students and to also expose them to the things that we consider pretty awesome with hopes that they will dig it too. I think they did.
